Poetry.
This poem is about an insecure girl. I wrote this because I have been insecure all my life but I have had friends who have helped me try to find my worth. I know many people have this problem because when they let others in they can easily walk out taking a piece of you with them. This makes us guarded and we hide who we truly are. But the message I put off in this poem is to know your worth and to embrace your true self, because your true self is beautiful. I use the representation of a flower because they have to grow from inside a seed once it has had the proper care it needs. It may start off as a small seed, but once it grows it will bloom and become something beautiful. That's how we are in our own minds. We keep our true selves hidden away because we are afraid of what people will think or if they'll judge us. The water I used to represent people trying to come into our lives to get us to open up be we won't because our "walls" are so thick. When I said people would "dig her up and put her in a pot", I used this as a symbol of manipulation. Being trapped in that "pot", not having anywhere to go because you can't survive without them. But she realizes that she can, and she bursts out of the ground and soars because she's finally free and realizes she's more than what she's meant to be.
The Girl in Bloom
By Haylee White
She’s in the ground,
Just waiting to grow.
Many droplets of water hit the dirt,
But she won’t let the water flow,
Throughout herself,
She won’t let it in.
Because she’s afraid of what everyone will think,
When they see what’s within.
She has these walls around her,
She sits behind them curled up.
Sitting in the dark,
Not knowing what she’s covering up.
Yet she sits in darkness, she’s lighting up the whole room.
Radiating these most unique and spectacular colors, begging to break through.
But she keeps them in, to protect herself.
From the water that can open her up, just so someone can put her on a shelf.
To dig her up and keep her in a pot,
Thinking she’s theirs because they keep her alive.
Watering her with the stuff she needs,
In order to survive.
But one day, she lifts her head,
Looks at the walls she put up and saw the colors she spread.
She finally realized how amazing she really was,
That she was more than just a flower to be put inside a vase.
She finally soaked up all her nutrients and shot up from the ground.
The more she grew the more her colors seemed more profound.
She flew into the air, showing she had wings.
Showing all of her colors, in full bloom, ready for new beginnings.
